This beautiful cocktail is a twist on the classic, infused with real, fresh blueberries and freshly squeezed lime juice. The blueberry margarita is stunning and perfect for summer sipping, not to mention, it's delicious and full of natural flavours and colours.
Because of its natural, vibrant pink colour this would also be a great cocktail for pink-themed events, such as Valentine's Day. But my favourite time to make them is in the summer when blueberries are at their ripest - sweet and juicy.
Ingredients
- Fresh blueberries - Delicious, fresh berries are what this cocktail is all about.
- Silver tequila - Also known as blanco tequila.
- Cointreau - This adds citrus and depth to the cocktail.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice - For bright citrus flavour, perfect for enhancing the fresh blueberry.
- Agave syrup - I used organic blue agave syrup.
- Salt - I used my blueberry salt to rim the glasses for this drink. It's very easy to make and so pretty. Or, you can just use kosher salt or a coarse sea salt.
- Ice
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Substitutions
- Tequila - If you're not a fan of tequila, vodka would also taste great in this cocktail.
- Agave syrup - Substitute with simple syrup.
- Blueberry salt - Use kosher salt or coarse sea salt.
Variations
- Sugar-free - Swap the agave syrup for a few drops of pure liquid stevia for a sugar-free version. Be careful to not to add too much as stevia is very sweet.
- Melon - For another delicious variation of the margarita, you should try my melon margarita that is infused with real honeydew melon and so refreshing.
Instructions
Dip the edges of a rocks glass in agave syrup and then in blueberry salt (or another coarse salt) to rim it. Fill with ice then set aside.
Muddle the blueberries in a cocktail shaker.
Add tequila, Cointreau, the agave syrup, and a few ice cubes.
Shake the cocktail shaker vigorously for 20 seconds. Taste test and add more sweetener if desired.
Strain the blueberry margarita through a fine sieve into the prepared glass.
Equipment
Making this blueberry margarita requires a cocktail shaker, a muddler, and a fine sieve. You can find all of these pieces in this cocktail bar set. You will also need a rocks glass for serving.

I can't wait to make these gorgeous drinks this weekend! We have Friday happy hour with our neighbours and it's our turn to make the cocktails. I know this one will impress!
Asha says
Thanks so much, Colleen. I hope they turned out great!
Bernice says
How gorgeous! I just want to reach right in and grab a glass. It is certainly worth the time to make the blueberry salt because the pretty rimmer really makes the drink. Cheers!
Asha says
Thank you, Bernice. Sometimes things are just worth the little bit of extra effort 🙂

Such a beautiful cocktail, Asha! I love that you've made this recipe sugar-free. My favourite sweetener is Monkfruit and it worked well in this drink!
Asha says
Thank you! Monkfruit is a great option. I'm glad it worked well for you.

this Blueberry Margaritas without sugar is the best! I was really trying to cut out sugar and all the restaurant and store bought is too sweet so this is perfect!
Asha says
Thanks! Yes I'm keeping an eye on the sugar cocktails this summer 👀
