The city is having its second heat wave of the summer and I've been craving something fruity and refreshing. Something perfect for sipping out on the patio on a hot day. Have to say that I crushed it (bad pun intended). I introduce you to the kiwi kirsch crush. A tropical, fruity blend of fresh kiwi and cherry brandy that will knock your winter socks off.
Famous for its use in traditional black forest cake, Kirsch is a clear brandy made from the double distillation of morello cherries. It isn't sweet, but it has a vibrant cherry flavour and aroma. And, interestingly, it pairs amazingly with kiwi.
How to make a kiwi kirsch crush
This cocktail starts off with a juicy kiwi. Peel it and chop it into small pieces.
In a bowl, muddle the chopped kiwi together with simple syrup until you are left with a purée.
Add the kiwi purée into a cocktail shaker along with the vodka, kirsch, and a few ice cubes. Give it a good shake, then pour into a glass with some ice.
The blend of kiwi and cherry is so surprisingly good. I had to mix myself up another one!

½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup
1 oz (約30ml) (30 ml) vodka
¼ oz (7.5 ml) kirsch*
Peel and chop kiwi into small pieces.
In a bowl, muddle together kiwi and simple syrup until you make a purée.
Add kiwi purée, vodka, kirsch, and some ice cubes into cocktail shaker. Shake well then pour into a glass with ice.
