A modern name for a modern cocktail. The naked and famous cocktail looks pretty, but it packs a punch with a complex flavour profile. Boasting smokey, herbaceous, and citrus flavours, this delicious cocktail is a conversation piece for more reason than just its name.
- Aperol - a zesty Italian liqueur with rhubarb, herbaceous, and burnt orange flavours.
- Yellow Chartreuse - a sweet, spicy, and herbaceous liqueur made from a secret recipe by Monks in France. Liquor is distilled with 130 different herbs, plants, and flowers. There are yellow and green varieties of chartreuse. The green variety and a bit more about the history of Chartreuse are featured in my gypsy eyes cocktail post.
- Mezcal - a distilled, agave-based liquor from Mexico known for its extreme range of flavours. For this particular cocktail, you will want to use a nice, strong, 'smokey' mezcal. It needs to be able to contend with the two complex liqueurs.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice - This adds the bright, citrusy burst of flavour.
where is the Naked & Famous cocktail from
This cocktail was created by Joaquín Simó at the famous Death & Co bar, New York (2011), and it is featured in the Death & Co book. It is described as being the bastard child of "an illicit Oaxacan love affair between the classic Last Word and a Paper Plane," (Death & Co).
Was the name inspired by the sex tape in recent history that had brought a certain Kardashian to fame? I guess we can only surmise while sipping on this delicious cocktail.
Disclaimer: It should be said that not everyone who gets naked becomes famous. So keep that in mind before having too many of these and getting any wild ideas.
