This melon margarita is bursting with flavours of real honeydew melon and freshly squeezed lime juice. It makes for a very tasty and refreshing twist on the classic margarita.
I love tequilas and mezcals. I like drinking them straight, on the rocks, or in delicious cocktails. They remind me of warm nights and tropical breezes, hidden cocktail bars in the jungle that you find by following the murmur of distant music. I can't wait to be reliving these moments soon - but in the meantime, I'm content just sipping on this flavourful rendition.
Maybe serve this cocktail with a tasty melon balls appetizer dish. Make sure to try out Caribbean rum punch for another wonderful, wanderlust-evoking cocktail. You will feel like you're on a beach in no time.
Ingredients
- Honeydew melon - Make sure that you have a nice, ripe melon to get the best flavour. To tell if a honeydew is ripe, sniff the stem end. It should smell fresh and sweet.
- Blanco tequila (I used Casamigos)
- Cointreau
- Freshly squeezed lime juice
- Agave syrup
- Rim: sugar, kosher salt, lime zest
- Ice, for shaking
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Substitutions
Honeydew melon - You can substitute the honeydew in this recipe with another kind of melon. Cantaloupe works great, as well.
Agave syrup - You can use simple syrup as a substitute.
Instructions
In a shallow dish, mix together lime zest with sugar and kosher salt.
Cut your zested lime in half and juice it (for using in the margarita) then use the inside of the rind to wipe around the edge of your glass. Dip the moistened glass into the sugar and salt mixture to rim the glass.
Purée the honeydew melon using a blender, or you could pulverize it with a muddler. I recommend the latter if you have any anger to let out.
Add the melon purée, blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and agave syrup into your cocktail shaker with some ice.
Shake for 30 seconds then strain the melon margarita into your prepared glass.
Equipment
For this recipe, you will need a blender or muddler, a coupe glass, a cocktail shaker, and a cocktail strainer. Inside of this cocktail bar set you will find many of the items that you will need.
Top Tip
Using a ripe melon will make all the difference in the flavour of this cocktail. Ripe honeydew melon is delicious. Not so ripe? Not so much.
